Graindelavoix from Belgium have been renewing early music for years and presenting a recital with music from the 14th and 15th centuries in the Paulus Cultural Church. Century. The time was marked by numerous military conflicts throughout Europe, which also left their mark on the musical compositions of this period. The title is derived from a poem by the English poet Wilfred Owen about the horrors of the First World War, which for various reasons was considered the first war of modernity. The recontextualization of this over 500-year-old music by Graindelavoix is also to be understood as a commentary on the current warlike times of postmodernism. Following the concert, there will be an artist interview between Björn Schmelzer, the director of the ensemble, and the Basel-based media and film scholar Ute Hotel.
