Audio Description: Theater erleben - Oper entdecken

  • Audio description means that the visual elements of a performance, such as the stage design, costumes or visible plot, are described auditory. The audio description is narrated live and played through headphones.

    Theater erleben - Oper entdecken

A cooperation from Kaserne Basel and Theater Basel.

We, the Kaserne Basel and Theater Basel, are once again offering a joint package of plays with Audio Description in the 25/26 season. Together, we will attend two selected productions with you. In addition to technical accessibility through live audio descriptions and tactile tours in advance, the aim is to provide deeper access to the content of the performances. We will introduce the plays, discuss their forms and aesthetics, and place them in the context of contemporary theatre and opera. Where possible, artists will also be on site to talk about their work and answer questions. Of course, a delicious Apéro will be served. The devices will be distributed before the start of each performance. You are welcome to bring your own headphones, and assistance dogs are also welcome and allowed in the auditorium.

    Information about the selected plays

    Klapa

A choir that is no longer a choir meets on stage.
Nothing happens. A harsh landscape. And then, very quietly, someone begins to sing. Memories surface—of songs, mountains, and the sea.
    A group forms.
How does community arise? How do we encounter each other in a world riddled with lines of conflict, and how do we stand by each other as friends?

Patricija Katica Bronić and her team move between performance and concert in KLAPA. Using the singing forms of the Dalmatian klapa (English: “club/group of friends”) and Swiss yodeling, they begin a performative dialogue between cultures and people.

Grand Finale – Ein Geistermusical in drei Akten

How can life be completed when there are still scores to settle? A stage accident not only robs a diva of the grand finale of her comeback show, but also of her life. After her death, she meets an undertaker who talks to the dead and fulfills their last wishes. He tries to pass on this gift to his delinquent apprentice. For this musical premiere, Philipp Stölzl and Jan Dvořák (Andersen's Tales, among others) return to Theater Basel, together with song and theater music composer Christoph Israel. His songs resurrect the bittersweet, lush sound of film musicals from the 1960s.

After the workshop, you can marvel at the breaking pros at the Breaking Jam Callout Factory or join in the dancing yourself.

  • Breaking Workshop for people with dance experience

    Fri, Jan. 9, 2026, 7:00 p.m. — 8:30 p.m.

Community, competition, love, and anger: Arlette Dellers and Pia Ringel from the FLUX Crew invite you to a breaking workshop for beginners with a dance background. Guided by the groove of the music, you will dance together with the coaches and discover the great potential of breaking for communal and free dance expression. You will learn the technical basics, how to play with the music, and how to dance together in a cypher. You will also gain an insight into the peculiarities of the breaking scene and the tension between community, competition, love, and anger.

The workshop is part of the Breaking Jam Callout Factory. On January 10, the European breaking scene will be dancing and celebrating at the Kaserne Basel!

    Meeting point: Abendkasse
The workshop ticket is also valid as a ticket for the CALLOUT FACTORY on January 10 at 2:00 p.m. (doors open at 1:00 p.m.)!

    * The workshop offers an opportunity to gain initial experience in breaking. You should enjoy dancing and have some dance experience, but professional dance training or stage experience is not necessary. If you are unsure whether you have enough dance experience, then definitely come along!

A look behind the scenes of a cultural institution:
Behind the scenes at Kaserne Basel, employees from a wide range of professions work all day and often also at night to offer artists the best possible performance and audiences a unique live experience. What does the day-to-day running of an event look like outside of the performances? How is the theater, dance and music program created? What technology is hidden behind the historic walls of the Kaserne? How has the Kaserne Basel developed over the last four decades? During a guided tour of the premises, you will get to know the Kaserne Basel and the site, including the newly opened kHaus, from a new perspective.

    We offer:
    - Guided tours for different groups (e.g. school classes, university, companies, etc.)
    - Guided tours with different focal points (e.g. technology, theater/dance, music, professions, architecture, etc.)
    - Guided tours available in German, English or French
    - Combination options (e.g. with a visit to a theater or concert, aperitif)
