Workshop in German
Are you interested in what happens behind the scenes at a concert?
Would you like to try your hand at lighting and sound engineering and accompany a band live? Then you've come to the right place!
In this three-day workshop, you will have the opportunity to get to know the Kaserne Basel and the event technology on site. You will gain an insight into the job description and everyday life of an event technician.
You will also learn your first steps at the lighting and sound desk and, under the guidance of our experienced technical team, even accompany a band live at the sound or lighting desk in a concert situation.
And best of all: you don't need any previous experience.
Places are very limited.

Grief Cafe, Mi 23.4.25
-
Grief is usually borne in the first few months, after which everyday life returns for many. Not for mourners, they are missing an important part of their lives.
Grief needs time and space.
The Grief Cafe offers mourners a protected environment in which people are united by one thing - the loss of a loved one. Mourners often feel alone with their fate and their thoughts and feelings. In the Grief Cafe you can grieve without being alone. You can exchange ideas, get to know other bereaved people, but you can also simply listen or remain silent. After an introductory round, we listen to an input on a topic. Every bereaved person is welcome to come to the café with their story, feelings and thoughts.
The meeting point on 23 April is the main entrance to the barracks at 6 pm. The Grief Cafe is free of charge, please register here.
The Grief Cafe on 23 April in the barracks will be accompanied by Pia Küng. Pia Küng lives with her family in Laufental. With over 30 years of experience in Spitex, she is familiar with supporting people in difficult life situations. Dealing with death and grief became a constant companion in her everyday professional life and awakened in her the desire to deal more intensively with grief. As a certified grief counsellor, she has been running the grief café in Laufen since January 22 and welcomes mourners for individual sessions in her practice in Laufen's Stedtli district.
Since February 2024, she has also been accompanying the last journey of the deceased with sensitive funeral speeches.

Synthesizer-Workshop (16+), Sat & Sun 3./4.5.25
-
Workshop in German
In this two-day workshop, you will build the Form Controller, a DIY instrument for controlling electronic sounds. You will learn basic technical skills such as soldering and programming, as well as how to work with microcontrollers. The second day offers an introduction to the world of synthesizers. Basic concepts such as oscillators, filters and modulation are explained. In a practical hands-on session, you will have the opportunity to try out both analog and digital synthesizers. What you have learned can be implemented on your own computer with freely available software synthesizers, applied and made playable interactively with the form controller.
At the end, there will be a joint jam session in which creative experiments and musical ideas can be exchanged.
The workshop is aimed at interested people without any previous musical or technical knowledge, but also at people who have already gained some experience.
Please bring your own laptop (preferably Apple) and headphones if available.
The workshop will be led by Robin Michel. He is this season's LAB artist at the Kaserne and an electronic musician and artist with a broad focus on electronic sound production.

Alice - Choir Workshop
Alice - Choir Workshop
Singing by ear, without sheet music. The free two-day workshop is aimed at anyone who enjoys singing - regardless of previous knowledge! Together with the musicians from Alice, the trio will rehearse pieces for several voices.
The highlight: a joint performance in the Merian Gärten Basel on 06.09.25!
Alice is a three-member, intergenerational women's choir from Geneva. Accompanied by a second-hand synthesizer and limited virtuosity, Alice has the courage to sing about the meaning of life in front of everyone. Her songs blend nursery rhymes, French folk music, everyday moments and infectious wit into a polyphonic soundscape. Musically somewhere between art pop, philosophy, sweet gangsta rap and futuristic folklore.

Behind the scenes at Kaserne Basel, employees from a wide range of professions work all day and often also at night to offer artists the best possible performance and audiences a unique live experience. What does the day-to-day running of an event look like outside of the performances? How is the theater, dance and music program created? What technology is hidden behind the historic walls of the Kaserne? How has the Kaserne Basel developed over the last four decades? During a guided tour of the premises, you will get to know the Kaserne Basel and the site, including the newly opened kHaus, from a new perspective. We offer:
- Guided tours for different groups (e.g. school classes, university, companies, etc.)
- Guided tours with different focal points (e.g. technology, theater/dance, music, professions, architecture, etc.)
- Guided tours available in German, English or French
- Combination options (e.g. with a visit to a theater or concert, aperitif)
