Jeremy Nedd is finally back on the big stage – opening our season with Slidin’ thru.
After his US tour, and line dances open air at Tanzfest, the Basel-based choreographer transforms the Reithalle into a space of joyful, danced resistance – somewhere between a ballroom and a gym.
As narratives of progress begin to crack and past achievements are called into question, Jeremy Nedd turns to what connects us: coming together, moving together. In Slidin’ thru, three performers draw on social dances from the US of the 1970s and 80s – and the sounds that carried them.
The choreography makes the energy of the spaces where these dances once emerged palpable – as an invitation to join in. Slidin’ thru asks how we can stay supple and cool, remain collectively resistant in uncertain times – and still keep the joy alive. Dance becomes a ritual, and a reminder that we have been here before, and that we will get through it together.
