Many boxing champions have danced—Muhammad Ali trained in tap dancing, Vasiliy Lomachenko in Ukrainian folk dance, and Mike Tyson danced to Latin pop on an Argentine dance show. Nimble is a captivating fusion of contemporary dance, boxing, and circus. Choreographer and circus artist Alexander Vantournhout, known for his precise, physically expressive work, is collaborating here for the first time with a large ensemble of nine dancers.
Inspired by the footwork of boxing, Nimble brings to light what is often overlooked: tempo, precision, and the subtlest shifts in interaction. On the large Reithalle stage, the space becomes a playground for a collective that is constantly reforming—oscillating between synchrony and individuality.
The soundtrack is created live—the movements give rise to a dense soundscape of beats, polyrhythms, loops, and pulsating electronics. Nimble unfolds as a pulsating choreography in which movement and sound drive each other, drawing the audience into the rhythm and transforming the stage into a shared, physical rhythm.
The Kaserne Basel is presenting Nimble as part of ZIRKA ZIRKUS in collaboration with Station Circus—exclusively in Basel—before the production embarks on a European tour.

Biography
Not Standing was founded by choreographer Alexander Vantournhout.
Alexander Vantournhout (Brussels, 1989) studied cyr wheel and juggling at ESAC (Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque) and contemporary dance at P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) in Brussels.
Alexander Vantournhout's physical language has been influenced by his varied education and diverse working circumstances. However, it is also marked by two constants: his search for the creative and kinetic potential in physical limitations, and the relationship or boundary between performer and object.
