«There is nothing new under the sun, but there are new suns.» Octavia Butler
From Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to Ursula K. Le Guin to the feminist science fiction worlds of today: For centuries, literature has imagined alternative bodies, societies, and futures—and in doing so, has challenged the supposed certainties of its time. At this salon, we’ll therefore ask: What potential lies within queer-feminist science fiction? What other worlds does it make conceivable and visible?
And, of course: What does it sound like?

Once a month, intellectual, provocative, political, humorous, radical, anti-racist, emotional, and thought-provoking evenings on queer-feminist topics are held. The salon serves as a meeting place and gathering spot for current issues and topics, often building on—and always enriching—the feminist program at the Kaserne Basel. The series is curated by Katha Baur, Caroline Faust, Franca Schaad, and Franziska Schutzbach.
