In Undine, Natascha Moschini explores our ambivalent relationship with bodies of water such as the Rhine—nourishing, beguiling, and yet threatening. The focus is on mythological water spirits such as Fouqué’s Undine. What ecological and social dimensions does this Romantic novella reveal, both then and now, and what longings and fears does it reflect in our relationship with nature? The artistic fairy tale serves as a basis for dialogue with other artists and cultural practitioners about myth-making, Romanticism, and life along the Rhine.
