In an era of rapid technological development, caught between techno-futuristic promises of salvation and apocalyptic doomsday scenarios, the boundaries between the organic and the mechanical are becoming increasingly blurred; it is no longer just the digital body that imitates the analog, but the reverse as well. At the center of Alma Toaspern’s choreographic research is the analog body: its inherent power, its ability to develop its own systems—and to resist them at the same time. Stage objects become wearable extensions of the body, somewhere between parasite, armor, and cyborg. With live voice, celestial sounds, 4x4, the rumbling of ventilation hoses, and diaphragmatic flutter.
