CADELA FORÇA TRILOGY - Chapter I: The Bride and The Goodnight Cinderella
The Bride and The Goodnight Cinderella is an odyssey full of dark poetry and wicked humor, magnificently composed, excessive, and unpredictable. At the same time, it is an artistic work that has caused more of a stir in the international theater world over the past two years than any other.
On stage, director Carolina Bianchi tells the story of performance artist Pippa Bacca. In 2008, Bacca set out on a journey from Milan to Jerusalem in a wedding dress, hitchhiking to send a message of peace between people. The venture ended in tragedy: she was raped and murdered along the way. Was her action courageous? Or was it simply reckless and ignorant?
Based on Bacca's story and the work of other artists who use their own bodies as a means of protest and as a target, Bianchi delves deeper and deeper into the world between art and violence. And she goes one step further. Slowly, the knockout drops—known in Brazil as “Goodnight Cinderella”—that Bianchi has taken on stage begin to take effect. She loses consciousness and the eight performers of the collective take over. An artistic monument between Marina Abramovic and Richard Wagner begins to unfold.
With this globally discussed performance, Bianchi puts her own body on the line.
“This performance shook up Avignon during the first week of the festival and made Bianchi a sensation.” The New York Times

Biography
Carolina Bianchi is a Brazilian theater maker, author, and performer who currently lives and works in Europe. Her works take crisis as their starting point and produce objectively false memories relating to sexual violence and the history of art. Her productions combine references from literature and visual arts, focusing on violence through the medium of text and bodies that produce sensory and performative gestures. She is the director of the Cara de Cavalo (translated as “Horse Face”) collective in São Paulo, with which she is developing the Cadela Força trilogy (2022–2025).
Since the premiere of Chapter I: The Bride and Goodnight Cinderella at the Festival d'Avignon in 2023, the production has been touring Europe and Australia. The play was awarded Le Prix du Syndicat de la Critique in France as the best international premiere of the 2023/24 season.
