Poumon d'Eau is a sound performance with multiple, vibrating umbrellas, acting as porous membranes. They amplify rhythms of underwater photosynthesis, artificial sounds and environmental recordings to create a field of fleeting sounds. Inspired by the fact that the world's oceans act as permeable lungs, producing over 50% of the world's oxygen through photosynthesis and phytoplankton, the piece invites for a moment of collective listening with water plants and the un/conscious ambiguity of breathing. Poumon d'Eau drifts between O2 and H2O, contrasting breathless life by proposing: hold your breath for a while to feel the permeability of your lungs.
