In this two-day workshop, you will build form controllers, a DIY instrument for controlling electronic sounds. You will learn basic technical skills such as soldering and programming, as well as how to work with microcontrollers. The second day offers an introduction to the world of synthesizers. Basic concepts such as oscillators, filters and modulation are explained. In a practical hands-on session, you will have the opportunity to try out both analog and digital synthesizers. What you have learned can be implemented on your own computer with freely available software synthesizers, applied and made playable interactively with the form controller.
At the end, there will be a joint jam session in which creative experiments and musical ideas can be exchanged.
The workshop is aimed at interested people with no previous musical or technical knowledge, but also at people who have already gained some experience.
Please bring your own laptop (preferably Apple) and headphones if available.
The workshop will be led by Robin Michel. He is one of this season's LAB artists at the Kaserne and an electronic musician and artist with a broad focus on electronic sound production.
