Sophia Kennedy, born in Baltimore, USA, grew up in Germany and began writing her own plays early on. She moved to Hamburg and studied film at the Hochschule für bildende Künste (HfbK), which she dropped out and turned to music. Together with Mense Reents (The Birds, Egoexpress, the Golden Lemons) she recorded her debut album, which was released in 2017 on DJ Koze's label Pampa Records and received international recognition. In 2019, she released the experimental album NOW on Malka Tuti as part of the duo Shari Vari with Helena Ratka. In 2021, Sophia Kennedy's second album titled Monsters was released by the label City Slang, which was awarded the 2022 VUT Prize in the "Best Album" category in 2022. In May 2025, City Slang's third album "Squeeze Me" will be released again, on which the singer and her long-time musical collaborator and co-writer Mense Reents (Egoexpress, the Birds, The Golden Lemons) offer a more disillusioned commentary on the status quo.
In the past, Kennedy worked as a musician on various theater productions (Deutsches Theater Berlin, Theater Leipzig) and composed the music for various radio play productions. Kennedy lives and works in Hamburg and Berlin.
