Nik Bärtsch © Claude Hofer

Swiss pianist and composer Nik Bärtsch has developed his approach to meditative, tonally and rhythmically idiosyncratic "Ritual Groove Music" from a deep involvement with Zen Buddhism, which he practices in various constellations in clubs and on concert stages all over the world. For a new work commissioned by the Basel Sinfonietta, his acoustic formation Mobile will now play together with the Sinfonietta's large orchestra for the first time. In the second part of the evening, the Sinfonietta will present music by Icelandic composer, cellist and Oscar-winner Hildur Guðnadóttir, including a piece from the drama Tár with Cate Blanchett and Nina Hoss.

Conductor: Titus Engel
Nik Bärtsch's Mobile: Nik Bärtsch (piano), Sha (alto saxophone, bass clarinet), Nicolas Stocker (drums, percussion),  Lena Schmidt (lighting design)

Concert introduction at 6.15 pm.

In collaboration with Basel Sinfonietta and offbeat Jazzfestival Basel.
