For this impressive musical performance, Côte d'Ivoire-born choreographer Nadia Beugré embarked on a solitary journey. A journey to the village of her ancestors, the village of her childhood: Yikakou. The village no longer exists: the land that was considered cursed is now covered with forest.

Beugré's journey developed into a search for various archetypal female figures. The figure of the grandmother who gave her the name Gbahihonon, “woman who says what she sees.” The figure of Dô-Kamissa, the aging woman who, after her brother wronged her, turned herself into a buffalo to destroy his land. As a female oracle, she skillfully arranged the marriage of the king to Sogolon Kandé, the hunchbacked woman.
Beugré, together with Charlotte Dali, embodies all these different women in an incredibly powerful performance that resembles a ritual. With generous and explosive performativity and musical wit, the three share every drop of their own existence and that of their ancestors, who still live on in them.

Nadia Beugré

Born in Ivory Coast, Nadia Beugré became in 1997 a founding member of Béatrice Kombé’s groundbreaking, all-female dance ensemble, Tché-Tché, with whom she toured worlwide.

After Beatrice Kombé’s passing, she entered the Ecole des sables in Senegal, then joined in 2009 the Ex.e.r.ce. master in Montpellier, under Mathilde Monnier’s direction.
She was soon staging productions of her own, including the still-touring solo Quartiers libres ('Free Rein') in 2012. More recently, the duet Filles-Pétroles (2023) and Prophétique (2023) for six artists from the Trans community portrays an Ivorian youth on fire.

She just premiered her second solo, Épique ! (pour Yikakou) at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in May 2025.

Nadia Beugré also performs in works by fellow choreographers, such as Alain Buffard, Dorothée Munyaneza, Boris Charmatz and in 2022 Robyn Orlin.

Nadia Beugré has founded her company in Montpellier Libr’Arts, a platform for production, touring and training between France and Ivory Coast.
