In addition, each artist receives financial support of CHF 4,000, as well as a lump sum of CHF 1,000 for inviting lectures or workshops
You can apply with a simple 5-minute video via our application platform until January 18, 2024
The call for applications in detail:
The Kaserne LAB brings together artists from Basel and the surrounding area - from the fields of dance, performance, theater or related areas, whether established or up-and-coming. The aim is to create space for exchange and encounters in order to further develop artistic practice. In parallel to the LAB artists, changing international resident artists work at the Kaserne Basel. The group organizes itself and is accompanied by the Kaserne team(Care & Share).
The residency starts in August 2026 with introductory days and runs until June 2027. The Kaserne LAB is a community-based format: We expect openness and a willingness to share ideas and processes and an interest in exchanging ideas with other artists.
What we offer at Kaserne LAB:
Each LAB artist receives a lump sum of CHF 4,000. As a partner, we provide support in applying for further funding for activities within the framework of the LAB. In addition, an amount of CHF 1,000 per artist is available to invite external persons for lectures, further education or workshops. These events should be as public as possible so that artists who are not part of the program can also benefit from them.
The Kaserne provides an equipped rehearsal stage and various other rooms. All rooms will be shared between the LAB and residency artists in a self-managed manner.
A basic technical setting is defined at the beginning of the residency. Technical equipment will be provided if available.
The Kaserne accompanies the artistic processes and provides support in the form of dramaturgical advice, networking and, where possible, technical implementation.
The LAB artists are invited to open up their artistic processes to the local scene and the Kaserne audience (e.g. through Showings, workshops, training sessions).
Every month we offer 1-2 dates for Showings. These are optional and can be announced publicly if planned well in advance.
There is no obligation to present a result publicly at the end of the residency.
LAB artists receive free admission to all Kaserne events during their residency.
How to apply for the Kaserne LAB:
We ask you to submit a video presentation of max. 5 minutes that includes the following points:
Who are you?
What would you like to work on during your residency? How would you like to use the space for a period of time (practice, research topic, activities, planning and use of time, etc.)? Please be specific.
Do you already have ideas for formats of encounter and exchange or for collaborators and specialists you would like to invite? And can you imagine doing a Showing during the residency?
What do you expect from Kaserne Basel?
Please record the video in landscape format and in a good resolution and make sure that there is no disturbing background noise. If it is not possible for you to apply with a video, please contact Lilli Schaugg(l.schaugg@kaserne-basel.ch).
Please upload the application video to our application platform by January 18, 2026.
Who selects?
It is important to us that you feel part of the Kaserne team in the Kaserne LAB. Therefore, a team from different areas of the Kaserne selects together.
We recommend that you visit Showings and other formats of the current LAB artists to get to know the residency format better.
We look forward to receiving your application!
