How do we connect in times of extreme polarization and isolation?

How is loneliness perceived differently?

In an individualistic society, people are caught in a paradox: on the one hand, they desire infinite freedom and self-determination; on the other hand, they crave belonging and honest exchange.

Is that all there is explores how we deal with dependence and examines the causes, shame, and consequences of loneliness, separation, and being alone.

Three dancers move between isolation and extreme closeness, driven by the music of freedom and the fear of being alone.

Is that all there is is being created in collaboration with Culturescapes Festival and Kaserne Basel. In collaboration with Soundsisters, a young women's DJ collective from Marrakesh, Tabea Martin and her company delve into the complex, taboo subject of loneliness and develop a new work for the festival.

Tabea Martin is a choreographer and performer from Basel. She studied modern dance at the Amsterdam School of the Arts and choreography at the Rotterdamse Dansacademie. Her works span dance, theater, and performance and tour internationally—including Pink for Girls & Blue for Boys, This is my last dance, Forever, and Nothing Left. She works both independently and at municipal theaters, including the Schauspielhaus Zurich, Theater Basel, Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, Theater Neumarkt Zurich, and Burgtheater Vienna. Her work has received numerous awards, including the Culture Prize of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft and the Special Prize of the Bern Dance Awards. She was a “Young Associated Artist” of Pro Helvetia and is active on various juries. She also teaches at various universities.

Soundsisters are strongly committed to women + in the Arabic music scene. They offer weekly DJ workshops in Marrakesh to strengthen the scene. Soundsisters Morocco was founded in 2022 by Maria Malasangre and is revolutionizing the music industry by creating an inclusive space for female DJs throughout Morocco. As the first DJ collective in the country, they are already represented in seven cities with over 60 members, making a noticeable contribution to equality in electronic music. They create a safe environment where women can freely experiment, collaborate, and showcase their talent to enable more diverse lineups and close the gap. Through education, representation, empowerment, and community building, they are reshaping the industry.

The project is accompanied by Moroccan photographer Salaheddine El Bouaaichi, whose images flow into the presentation and illuminate the ambivalence of being alone in Marrakesh.

Salaheddine El Bouaaichi (born in Marrakesh in 1997) is a Moroccan photographer who has been active since 2016. With an unmistakable urban style, he documents the dynamics of his hometown and tells visual stories about the diversity of everyday life in Morocco. His works oscillate between realism and sublimity, revealing the beauty of Marrakesh from a personal, culturally influenced perspective. The hip-hop and rap scene in Morocco is particularly prominent in his work, which he portrays with great intimacy and authenticity. In addition to freelance photography projects, he also designs covers for albums, mixtapes, and EPs.
