The Norwegian group Susie Wang takes on an archaic myth: the birthing female body. In a space-ship yoga studio, overdue first-time mothers try to find security where the opposite is required: letting go. Dr. Jack demonstrates how it’s done: take a deep breath and follow the body. Each woman brings her own physical and emotional challenges: Skyler has swollen feet, Zoe feels dizzy, Sheila is sad. Between groaning, laughter, and pain, a mixture of comedy and existential drama unfolds.

We have long suspected that nature has had enough. And so, an unexpectedly different being suddenly breaks into the prenatal idyll. When the air runs out and the door slams shut, we are trapped inside, caught in the contradiction between maximum freedom and maximum control. Susie Wang guarantees an unforgettable experience at the threshold of life.

Biografie

Susie Wang is an Oslo-based theatre group founded in 2017 by Trine Falch, Martin Langlie, Mona Solhaug and Bo Krister Wallstrøm.

After many years working within a performative tradition, embracing everything authentic and real, they grew increasingly curious about the theatrical unreal. As Susie Wang, they now make theatre with characters and plots.

Or as they put it: Susie Wang was brought up with a shattered worldview, but instead of reflecting the world in fragments, we now pick up the pieces and assemble them into dramatic storylines.
