Following the huge success of Raising Karen's Children at the Kaserne 2023, Muhammed Kaltuk and his company MEK are bringing a new, powerful work to Basel - this time at the Dreispitzareal.

Same Love uses dance to embark on a search for love and belonging, questioning social prejudices and norms. The impressive ensemble takes the audience on a moving, choreographic journey of discovery through public space.

The performance celebrates the diversity of human experiences and makes the political dimension of love visible. It not only shows how experiences of love are painfully passed on from generation to generation, but also how our understanding of love is shaped by upbringing and social expectations. Same Love is more than just a spectacular dance performance - it is an emotional statement for acceptance, tolerance and empowerment!

Company MEK

Muhammed Kaltuk founded the Company MEK in 2017 to give his art and creativity a solid framework. The company specializes in producing works that combine elements of hip hop and contemporary dance with cultural and traditional dance forms. Company MEK embraces diversity and has a distinct activist and artistic voice. Their movement language is powerful and unique and is the clear hallmark of the company's ensembles, alongside the composition of diverse people.

Muhammed Kaltuk

Muhammed Kaltuk, who grew up in Switzerland in a conservative Turkish family, first had to complete medical training before he could realize his dream of a career in dance. He won international competitions such as World of Dance with his crew Special Elements and solo. At the age of 25, he began dance training in Zurich to combine hip-hop with contemporary dance. His style combines socially critical themes with aesthetic innovation. He works with ballet ensembles and his own productions, e.g. Father Politics and Raising Karen's Children. Kaltuk also links dance with museums, most recently with the Kirchner Museum Davos.
