RAGE is a cathartic revenge play about everyday sexism against women. Four women reenact sexual assaults from their everyday lives, with roles being redistributed throughout the play, and allow themselves to lose their temper: No more comments or touching on the street, in the office, or on the subway. With the know-it-alls and the bullies. And with a sense of impunity. Émilienne Flagothier and her energetic actresses uncompromisingly string together scenes of everyday aggression to play out a different outcome: they fight back in an equally exaggerated and important act of empowerment without a referee. RAGE is not a discourse on method, but a liberating gesture that relies on hard-hitting lines, grotesque acting, soundscapes, fake mustaches, and iron bars. A comical and destructive, political and cathartic in-your-face experience.
Duration: approx. 110 min.
The event is part of the network meeting of M2ACT and Helvetiarockt, which focuses on the topics of abuse of power, sexualized and gender-specific violence in art and culture.
Emilienne Flagothier
Emilienne Flagothier is 32 years old, but in her eighth earthly reincarnation. As a radical ecofeminist, she divides her life between militant anarchist collectives and institutional theatrical practice. After a master's degree in directing at INSAS, she co-founded ASBL ASBL, a self-managed, horizontal theater collective.
In 2019, she directs WE SHOULD BE DANCING (a co-production of Théâtre de Liège and Mars - Mons arts de la scène), a dance show in which five adult actors painstakingly reproduce the movements of 3-year-olds.
In 2022, she created RAGE: a cathartic and bloody rewriting of the sexist micro-aggressions that pollute our daily lives.
Emilienne is currently rehearsing her next show, LET'S TALK ABOUT SEX, a solo performance based on interviews and personal accounts.
