Flm by Susanne Regina Meures
A new vision of the apocalypse with an eclectic cast featuring Florentina Holzinger and the musician Peaches, ETERNITY is a new film by writer and director Susanne Regina Meures about women, muscle cars and global collapse. As the globe unravels, a group of friends reunite for one final summer. Escaping a world shaped by war and a collapsing climate, they hit the road in search of something real, finding fleeting moments of hedonistic freedom under the burning sun. But as they try to escape reality, the past catches up with them.
Set against the backdrop of a melting glacier, ETERNITY platforms Holzinger’s performance art to illustrate the defining question of our time: how did we end up on a dying planet?
Duration: 72 Minuten

Florentina Holzinger is an Austrian performance artist and choreographer whose practice combines extreme physicality with theatrical precision to probe the limits of corporeal agency. Working across dance, performance, opera and theatre while critically engaging with their histories, Holzinger blends legitimised “high” culture with pop and countercultural currents to unsettle the lines between spectacle and subversion.

Director's Statement
ETERNITY emerged from my desire to explore some of the urgent issues of our time, including the worsening climate crisis, which has long felt very personal to me, but also the social costs posed by late-stage capitalism and our world's increasingly unstable geopolitics.
The idea for the film materialized when I first visited the Rhône Glacier in Switzerland, one of the biggest glaciers in the Alps. Looking up at its glorious and doomed shape, I understood that it was the perfect, melting symbol of our current imbalanced world.
The other breakthrough moment for me was when I discovered the work of Florentina Holzinger in 2022. For a decade, the Austrian artist has been a respected performer and choreographer on Europe's stages, radically pushing the limits of what a human body can endure. Her work shares my interest in connecting the strands of our dystopian reality, including far-right populism, misogyny, neo-colonialism, and our warped relationship with technology.
It is no surprise that Holzinger has risen to become one the most influential figures in the global art world and the enfant terrible of dance. Aside from rave coverage in the New York Times, The New Yorker, the Guardian and countless other influential publications, her Austrian Pavilion is the hottest ticket at this year's Venice Biennale.
I asked her if she would be interested in collaborating and letting me adapt her work to create an unconventional and new kind of cinematic experience. I was thrilled when she agreed, allowing me to develop the script with the film’s central themes, including neo-colonial exploitation, the capitalist-patriarchal urge to dominate nature, as well as issues of female autonomy and bodily control. Just like the Earth’s resources have been extracted and exploited, female bodies have historically been treated as territories to be controlled and commodified. This parallel became a key conceptual idea in the film.
Our shoot with Florentina’s core group of performance artists on the glacier was a cathartic adventure, with temperatures swinging from intense heat to well below freezing. Ultimately the melting Alpine landscape became a protagonist of its own, the embodiment of our collapsing global order.
We see ETERNITY as a feminist, rebellious, and unapologetically free-spirited work of cinema -- an invitation to reconsider our relationship to the body, the world we inhabit, and the future we are making.
