Her song “Kelmti Horra” (My Word Is Free) from 2011 became the anthem of the Arab Spring. “MRA” is the fourth album by Tunisian singer Emel Mathlouthi – an electro-pop manifesto for female emancipation.
Since being discovered as an icon of the Arab Spring, Emel Mathlouthi has embarked on a diverse musical journey, collaborating with such diverse personalities as Valgeir Sigurdsson, Tricky, Barbara Pravi, Bachar Mar-Khalifé, Vitalic, and most recently Acid Arab. Her musical work combines electro, pop, hip-hop, and Arabic reggaeton.
Emel Mathlouthi's emotional power is breathtaking, immediate, and precious—because she sings from the heart. She can bring tears to your eyes with a single verse, just as she can deliver powerful beats—and remain the committed, peace-fighting artist she has been since her beginnings in life and art.
