Renegotiating Masculinities Part 3: Masculinity and Emancipation
In the third and final part of our series, we turn our attention to male emancipation and social change. The focus is on exploring how men today can develop and live out new forms of masculinity—beyond traditional notions of gender roles. What forms of emancipatory masculinities are currently emerging in various social contexts? How are men working toward a more just, non-patriarchal society? And what challenges and ambivalences arise in this process?
In addition, we will examine concrete approaches and avenues for action from work with boys and men, as well as from education and social work.
Together, we would like to discuss the potential that emancipatory masculinities offer for social transformation—and which questions remain open in this process.
Experts:
Timo Jost (Mannebüro Zürich, Sozialpädagogik)

The three-part series “Renegotiating Masculinities” (April 21, 2026, May 5, 2026, and May 26, 2026) explores male socialization and the various images of masculinity that shape our society. It also addresses anti-feminist and right-wing (online) radicalization. The series examines how masculinist gender politics are utilized by reactionary forces. In doing so, we engage with both analyses and potential solutions. Together with various experts, we discuss findings from research as well as from practical work with boys and men.
The series is a collaboration with the Office for Gender Equality of the Canton of Basel-Stadt.
