Ami Yerewolo is the first female Mandinka rapper in Mali. She uses traditional Malian instruments such as the kora harp, the ngoni and the yebara shaker and raps exclusively in Bambara, the vernacular of southern Mali. Rap allows her to express her anger and other emotions and show who she is and where she comes from. In 2020, her music became more political in response to society's dwindling trust in Malian politics, which is expressed in her single Lettre Ouverte.
