In his book Anarchistische Ökologien (Anarchist Ecologies), published by Matthes & Seitz Verlag, Basel historian Milo Probst addresses a pressing question: How can we inhabit the earth respectfully while upholding the demands for human freedom, equality, and solidarity?

To explore this question, Probst embarks on a journey through the history of ideas in the anarchist movements of the 19th and 20th centuries. In doing so, he makes it clear that earlier generations were by no means blind to the ecological consequences of human activity. Within anarchist currents, a multifaceted and often surprisingly topical debate unfolded about the relationship between humans and nature—a discussion whose radicalism and foresight can also provide important impetus for today's ecological discourses.
