A pair of lovers, a pair of siblings, three people, and a ping-pong table – the surprising setting of FAMILY TRIANGLE seeks to renegotiate the fundamentals of family: family is something that develops – it is not a fixed entity. In this stage experiment, relationships are not asserted, but rather tried out, shifted, and rearranged. In many countries around the world, queer lifestyles are nothing unusual. The human desire to have children of one’s own, however, and especially the path to achieving this, often presents many couples with legally and culturally complex situations, despite meanwhile marriage to same-sex couples is accepted in many places. Nevertheless, questions of parenthood, reproduction, and legal protection for queer families remain socially and politically contentious. The performance from Taipei takes these realities seriously without problematising them. Instead, the play opens up a space in which different family structures become conceivable. Director Hung Chien-Han, her younger brother Hung Wei-Yao, an actor, and lighting designer Ray Tseng do not merely form an artistic production collective. It is the life they share that forms the basis of the performance FAMILY TRIANGLE .Theatrical techniques including an amazing ping-pong between video and live scenes as well as directly addressing audiences, take us on a road trip through an intense negotiation of the performers’ personal, deeply intimate matters.

Biography

Hung Chien-Han is a Taipei-based theatre and performance maker, and co-leader of the artist collective Co-coism. She is currently an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Theatre at the National Taipei University of the Arts.

Her practice explores performance as a relational and perceptual apparatus, examining how multi-sensory experiences and spatial dramaturgy shape encounters between performers and audiences. Adopting questioning as a central method, her works address social, emotional, and ethical concerns across past, present, and speculative temporalities. She works across Live Exhibitions, Lecture Performances, Participatory Projects, and Scenography, treating performance as a perceptual vehicle rather than a fixed narrative form.

Recent works include Family Triangle (Taipei Arts Festival) and the Sibling Trilogy : Family Romance, Grandmother Paradox (co-created with Wei-Yao/her brother), and Three Produce Everything (co-created with Wei-Yao and Ray Tseng). Ever Never won First Prize at the 2015 Wuzhen Theatre Festival and was later selected for the 2017 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

She is a resident artist at the Manchester International Festival (UK) in 2025 and participated in the 2024 residency exchange between the National Theater & Concert Hall (Taipei) and Teatre Lliure (Barcelona).

Hung Wei-Yao Born in 1990 in Taiwan, Yao studied Acting at the Taipei National University of the Arts before founding his own theatre company and beginning his work as a director–creator. He writes and directs all of his works, and enjoys exploring diverse theatrical forms—including lecture-performance, participatory theatre, and immersive theatre. He is adept at using scenography and the performers’ bodies as narrative tools, creating a warm yet abstract, chaotic, and absurd theatrical aesthetic.

In 2026, Yao was invited to present the No (Political) Party at the Taiwan International Festival of Arts (TIFA). He has also been invited four times to the Taipei Arts Festival, where he created the Sibling Trilogy: Family Romance (2019), Grandmother Paradox (2020), Three Produced Everything (2022), and Family Triangle (2025).

Ray Tseng (Tseng, Jui-Hsuan) Born in Pingtung, Taiwan, based in Taipei, Taiwan. Ray Tseng is a creator whose practice investigates the fluid relationship between light, space, and time. She has been involved in international art festivals in the roles of lighting designer and technical director. She created and performed her original work, Family Triangle, in 2025. Her artistic approach focuses on translating thematic concepts and sensory experiences into visual and auditory narratives, constructing metaphorical works through reproduction and collage. Her key scenography and lighting credits include collaborations with Pichet Klunchun [NO.60] [Cyber Subin], Choy Ka Fai [Yishun is Burning] [Unbearable Darkness] [Softmachine: the return]  Jiani Gu [Transition], Co-creation multidisciplinary exhibition work [Dragonfly] with Lihla and Gantuya Badamgarav in 2025 XAOS festival.

Table Talks

Together with Art of Intervention, we're bringing the table talks back to Kaserne Basel! Once a month, we meet at the bar at 7:15 p.m. to get in the mood for the upcoming theater or dance evening in a relaxed atmosphere.
In dialogue with invited guests, we take a queer-feminist look at an aspect of the respective production. And after the performance, we open the space again for a brief exchange: sharing impressions, developing thoughts, shifting perspectives.
Come by, be inspired, and join the discussion!
