«Music can evoke the sense that life transcends the daily chaos,» says Sven Regener, founder and lead singer of the German band Element of Crime. He gained fame as an author with Herr Lehmann (2001). In his most recent book, Die Frau mit dem Arm, he episodically explores the remarkable world of musician and fellow artist Andreas Dorau, re-nowned for his Neue Deutsche Welle hit Fred vom Jupiter (1981). With a blend of humour and eccen-tricity, Regener recounts transformations in the pop and music industry, as seen through the eyes of Dorau: From music videos and expansive projects to concept albums and musicals, even the most seemingly trivial and peculiar subjects consistently discover a poetic resonance within his art. Like, for instance, a bottle-deposit stop-motion cartoon, a master of hypnosis or Die Frau mit dem Arm.
