I dreamed I quit my police unit and went on a walk
Imagination is required because we need to invent new worlds and new ways of being with each other. - Mariame Kaba
For years, distrust in the police has been growing as it becomes clear that police violence and discrimination are not isolated incidents. So, what if the police not only have a problem but the very structure of the police is part of the actual problem?
LAB-Artist Miriam Coretta Schulte & team share their research on a world-building game that envisions a world without police: «What would a society look like that ensures safety primarily through its social structures? How can we resolve conflicts together? And how can we redistribute the Basel police’s annual budget in a more purposeful way?»

Biography
Miriam is a theater maker, holds a Bachelor’s degree in law, and works at the intersection of art and activism. In their last theatre piece ‘Court Fantasies’ (2023), Miriam and her artistic partner Salma Said speculated on a world with freedom of movement for all; in 2024, she developed the workshop ‘Hungry Stars - A workshop to stimulate desire for more collective futures’ in Morocco.
