Maxime Houranis sonic impressions act as gateways to desert mountains, arid landscapes with abandoned scientific complexes, and oil fields with solar panels—landscapes he has encountered in his previous projects. His quadraphonic space serves as a cartographer's drawing table, where architectural spaces, landscapes, and topographies are translated into sonic movements. 

As part of his Pro Helvetia residency at Kaserne Basel, Maxime Hourani is showing parts of a larger project called Agnostic Apparitions, in which he humorously examines the unholy clash between archaeology and modern tourism. He invites the audience into a quadraphonic surround system as the stage of a live audio-cartographic experience that conjures the sacred and profane apparitions he encountered in the Sinaitic desert.
