From hard drum machine beats, synth sounds in the tradition of favourites like Depeche Mode and Nitzer Ebb, sinister German lyrics and heavy trumpet melodies, the Selection create their self-proclaimed Prosecco Wave. For thirteen years, two albums, a string of EPs and live shows in over 22 countries, the band led by Lucerne jack-of-all-trades Samuel Savenberg has managed to get EBM daddies, goth kids and ravers on the same dance floor. In September, they released their much-anticipated new album Zeuge aus Licht, which adds an elegant understanding of pop to their sound. As the second act of the evening, Konstantin Unwohl, who has released on Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, among others, ventures into the balancing act of hyper down-to-earthness and extravagance, 1980s synth fantasies and uncomfortable 2023 consciousness. The duo Walter Frosch are also part of the party. Straight out of the Schaffhausen DIY scene, they swapped their hardcore youth for synths and drum machines. The result, however, is not disco and fun, but reduced wave and lyrics about existential angst. In Basel they will present their new EP A Sea Of Broken Light, which was recently released on Irascible Records.
