In R.I.P. – Resurrect in Peace, Anan Fries celebrates the funeral of an extinct bird. At the beginning of the 19th century, the passenger pigeon was one of the most common bird species in the world, boasting roughly 3–5 billion specimens. The last one, Martha, died in 1914. Martha is now being given a proper send-off with a techno-intensive ritual. In the midst of the «sixth species extinction», in which one million species are currently facing extinction, R.I.P. celebrates the finite nature of all existence and a possible revival: R.I.P. represents a solemn acknowledgement of responsibility, a speculative exploration and a lament in computer graphics.
